Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) is seeking to hire a Human Resources Representative. This position will serve as a job classification analyst and prepare position descriptions for submission to Central Management Services (CMS) for approval. In addition, this position serves as classification liaison to various human resources staff, conducts special projects for the Classifications Unit and maintains electronic files.  We encourage all qualified individuals to apply.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as a job classification analyst, performing professional duties for the effective implementation of personnel operations for assigned areas.

  • Prepares position descriptions for submission to Central Management Services (CMS) for approval.

  • Serves as a classification liaison to various human resources staff including facility human resources staff, IDOC management, and CMS as required to complete classification duties.

  • Conducts special projects for the Classification Unit.

  • Maintains electronic files for the Classification Unit.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college and one (1) year of professional experience, preferably in human resources, or satisfactory completion of an approved training program.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience in a human resources office.

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience composing and editing job descriptions.

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of writing experience ensuring grammatical correctness.

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional working experience in a high-volume human resources office (an organization with at least 3000 employees).

  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience creating and maintaining organizational charts utilizing Microsoft Visio or similar software.

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience in a public or private organization maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information.

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience meeting deadlines with strong attention to detail.

  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience communicating in oral and written form with both internal and external stakeholders for a public or private organization.
Conditions of Employment

  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.

  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.

  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.

  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
